One Book per Child in Al Ayn & Balata, Nablus

This Summer (2010) I have been distributing books to children in Al Ayn and Balata Refugee camp in Nablus, West Bank. This is part 2 of my project which I started after my experience of teaching english in UNRWA girls school in Al Ayn refugee camp in Nablus from February to June 2009. Teaching these girls inspired me to launsh this project. I collected money from people in Norway, went to Nablus in December 2009, bought childrens books from a local book store and distributed them to girls and boys attending 3rd and 4th grade at the UNRWA school in Al Ayn refugee camp.

In July this year I returned to Nablus, bought children's books and distributed half of them to children in 5th and 6th grade at the UNRWA school in Al Ayn and the other half to children living in Balata refugee camp. I joined several of the Summer camps in Balata, ran by a.o Project HOPE (Humanitarian Opportunities for Peace and Education) volunteers, where I distributed children's story-books to the children there. It was a great and encouraging experience.
The idea is to give books to disadvantaged children, considering the importance of books; as the value of the written story is to gain knowledge, expand imagination, stimulate curiosity and simply be a source of joy, inspiration and dreams.
The project will continue in the beginning of 2011.
